@kiwa

Hello Warren,

>It appears that while first two modules are happy to connect direct to my phone wifi...

We assume that you are connecting to one module at a time because direct connection to two modules isn't possible. The direct connection to a module essentially means that the module is acting like an access point/router and in this scenario a smartphone cannot connect to two routers at the same time. Also, to connect to each of them individually, you have to go to Android wireless networks and tap on the network to connect. It cannot be done from within the app.

>...my last three wont. they try to connect through the internet which wont happen and when I go into wifi on my phone I find its telling me its connected to the module...

Seems like this is a direct connection. At this point, you will lose internet connectivity (although Android will try to switch to mobile data or a network with internet automatically).

>...and do I want to use the local network...

This seems like your home WiFi network. If so, remain connected with the blank screen and start the 'Add Loco' process to add the other 3 loco that you were earlier connecting to directly. This will add them to your home network. Please make sure there is no MAC filtering or other restrictions on your router. See this video for how to add a loco to network: LocoFi™ App - Adding a Loco to Network. It's made for an older version of Android but the idea is the same.

>The other thing that came up whilst fiddling was notification of a firmwear update which has not appeared before.

It is possible that when you clicked a 'Managed' loco, it lost connection to the module in the process e.g. switching over to mobile network and then it presents a default screen where the controls are disabled (and the upgrade firmware message is visible).

Hope that helps.

Best regards,

Hi, well an update to my previous posts, after much fiddling we seem to have tracked problem to wifi between phone anrd module. It appears that while first two modules are happy to connect direct to my phone wifi my last three wont. they try to connect through the internet which wont happen and when I go into wifi on my phone I find its telling me its connected to the module and do I want to use the local network and when I switch it back the display screen comes up. The other thing that came up whilst fiddling was notification of a firmwear update which has not appeared before. As for noise from the speaker all my modules make a very slight crackle when applying power and again when they connect so that seems normal anyway. So I will box on still enjoying it. Will keep you posted thanks for everyones input Warren Jones

First off, rest assured that each module is tested thrice before being shipped out, the last one being our own in-house testing. However, it is still possible that something may be missed or some damage during shipping (although it has never happened so far). But, it would be highly unlikely that an entire batch wouldn't be tested properly.

>...but goes back to the Main page.

Once you add a loco to the WiFi network, the control is supposed to back to the main screen.

>Just before that, when I confirm to add it to the network, I hear a very faint noise from the speaker.

There is a faint squeal from the speaker each time the module boots up (powered on). It is in fact another (good) indicator (apart from the LED blinks) that the module is receiving power and booted up well. In the case of adding a loco to the WiFi network, it is rebooting to reconnect to the network that you just chose to connect to.

To troubleshoot your issue of adding the loco to the WiFi network, are you starting with your smartphone connected to the WiFi network? More details can be found in this video: LocoFi - When I first receive my module. Please note that the video shows somewhat outdated screens but the general steps remain the same.

Hope that helps. Please feel free to get back with any additional questions.

Best regards,
