Yes. That is correct. The resistors are onboard all LocoFi™ modules.

I installed Miniatronics Yeloglo* LEDs with a LocoFi 3 in an HO Kato NW2 and they look just right for my 1939 time period.

*Ultra Bright 3mm diameter 12-310-05 installed without resistors (it looks like resistors are built into the LocoFi 3 board).

While LocoFi™ ships each package with a few spare LEDs of varying colors, if you would like to use your own LEDs instead, do look for LED color temperature charts before purchasing new LEDs. Each reputed seller will usually display the "color temperature chart" for each type of LED sold. Even the "warm whites" (most preferred) will have varying "color temperatures", so please be careful before making a selection. You may actually want to stock some with different color temperatures and see what will fit the best for a given locomotive.

Another thing to consider especially for colored LEDs like red for rear/brake lights is whether to choose "clear" or "diffused".

One last thing to look at would be the size. This will depend on the amount of space and the closest scale size for the headlight or other lights. LEDs come in various shapes and sizes, so that should be taken into consideration too.

When installing Locofi into a locomotive you may want to take into consideration the vintage or era of the locomotive, is it a steamer or diesel. Steam locomotives usually had warm colored headlights as well as early diesels while newer diesel units usually have a cool colored light.
