I have now posted a total of 7 videos about the creation of my first HO layout in a long, long time. It is, of course, a Dead Rail/Battery on Board layout.

The most recent video, My First HO Layout in a Long, Long Time, Part 7, was posted on June 11, 2023.

Part 7 includes a notice that LocoFi is coming closer to releasing their “Steam Sound” version. It is mostly about how I am adding purpose to the layout using cardstock structures.

I have documented the build, thus far, on my Website, “A Journey Into HO Scale Model Railroading in the 21st Century”. The Website was also updated today with more pictures and info on cardstock modeling.

http://www.theampeer.org/HO

I have created a play list for the layout series of 7 videos on YouTube, at this time.

As a reminder, I’ve also created a playlist for my “Making and Using a Portable Dead Rail Demonstration HO Layout Parts 1 – 10

My Channel, on YouTube, is noted as Electric Flyers Only of southeastern Michigan, that is because it was originally started for my electric motor, battery powered, RC flying videos.

Enjoy and let me know what you think,

Ken

Hi Ken

Just came across your page which mentions your involvement with Deadrail control of your layout. My experience has been that Deadrail is a touchy subject to bring up in the company of other modellers.

My own HO layout is Deadrail and is controlled by Del Tang products. I remain very satisfied with the results.

I haven’t viewed your You Tube videos as of yet, but will do so shortly.

Regards

@Rick Dow

Hi Rick,

Thanks for your comment.

I had found references to Del Tang equipment when doing research about using Dead Rail/deadrail.

http://www.deltang.co.uk/index.htm

http://www.deltang.co.uk/trains.htm

After a lot of research, about using Dead Rail/deadrail and the systems for it, I chose the LocoFi system to control and provided sound to my locomotives, and I haven’t regretted it for a moment. The App and module have been working excellently for me. The support is absolutely Top Notch/First Class, and I seldom, if ever, give that kind of praise.

I’m getting ready to add a steam engine to my locomotive roster, so I updated the App to version 2.35 yesterday. The module’s firmware was updated on both of my diesel locomotives. All went well and easily, and I am now ready for steam.

It appears that Del Tang transmitters are no longer available. If you are looking for a different system, I cannot recommend the LocoFi system highly enough. I’m just a user with absolutely no connection whatsoever to the LocoFi Team.

Based on reading several model railroad forums on the topic, I do know what you mean about mentioning Dead Rail/deadrail use to most other model railroaders, especially HO folks. It does seem to be a bit more prevalent for use by O-scalers and G-scalers, but still not the general way to provide power.

Again, thanks for your comment,

Ken

Hi Rick,

It seems like you tried to friend me on Facebook. I do have a Facebook account, but I don’t use it. I got it to join the Dead Rail Society Facebook group, but that group has been a big disappointment for ME.

The best way to get hold of me, for any reason, is to use my email address, available elsewhere.

Hope to hear from you,

Ken
